The last several weeks following our launch have been quite a mix of experiences for the Scour Team. We are thrilled with the success and number of users that have made Scour their dedicated resource for search. However, we’ve also endured countless instances of false “users” who have attempted to gain rewards through invalid usage as defined by our community guidelines. After careful debate following research into the impact of gamers on our system, we’ve concluded that in order to maintain the quality and integrity of our search network we must make some revisions to our points and rewards guidelines. As we have identified patterns of invalid usage concentrated in specific geographic areas, we will be initiating the following changes so as to continue to reward as many true Scour users as possible:
Our revised points schedule for all territories will be as follows:
·Search = 1 point
·Vote = 1 point
·Comment = 1 point
·Max amount of points per search = 3
*Points are earned from the first 100 daily searches with a maximum of 300 total points per day.
Our current rewards schedule (6,500 points = $25) will continue for the following territories: US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Poland and Spain. For all other regions, there will be a modified rewards structure: 50,000 points= $5.
The Revised Scour Rewards Schedule will be implemented August 29th, 2008. Any user with valid activity in the territories not mentioned above with over 3,000 points on August 29th will be eligible for the $25 rewards payout once they reach 6,500 points. The revised Scour rewards schedule will be applicable thereafter.
As an additional effort to promote high quality comments, there will be a 30 character limit for all comments. We hope this will encourage users to leave detailed comments that describe their experiences and any other useful information for the Scour community.
We want to assure you that our goal first and foremost at Scour is to build a superior search experience through global community participation and secondly share our success by rewarding the users for their contributions. We understand that these revisions will be an inconvenience to some, and appreciate your patience.
For those users who have requested a cash out, payment will be sent once your activity and friend points has been reviewed for valid usage. Currently this will take 2-4 weeks while we make our way through the invalid user requests.
As we continue to grow and fortify our technology, we are confident that we will be able to offer an expanded rewards system in the near future.
Here are some upcoming features and upgrades we are working on:
-Faster search results
-upgraded search interface
-Scour friend messaging
-Social plug-ins
-Detailed user settings
-Advanced search options
-And much more!
Thank you for your continued support on Scour and we look forward to improving your search experience!
-The Scour Team

Hey guys this is great! I am glad that this update is coming out Friday! I can’t stand those people that just come on and do the quick search and get +4 per search real quick and think they are going to be eligable for the $25 gift card. And, then they get banned and bash scour.
great addition!
hopefully I can get to the 6500 mark one day.

For all other regions, there will be a modified rewards structure: 50,000 points= $5. - This is so discouraging. I’d rather use Homepages friends. What they do is they do is deduct a certain number of searches from your account if they have been invalidated. If the user continues to do it again, their account gets deleted. I think that’s the just away of dealing with members.

50,000 point = $5. i think all people from other region will run away from SCOUR. so i say good bye to Scour… good luck

We thank everyone for their feedback and want to assure you that we are making these changes in order to maintain the integrity and quality of searches for everyone. We do apologize for those who are impacted by the change in our rewards, but still appreciate your search feedback as valid contributors.

Well, I think scour choose to do as they saw this was the best thing to do for their needs..
What I think scour needs:
First:I can’t change my password…can you do anything about this..
Second:just do not count same queries…I often do this because i do not remember website names but remember the query..but I never cheated..should I be banned for this?
9 David Mackey // Aug 27, 2008 at 11:28 pm
Sounds good. Though you should have an obvious way for people to keep track of whether they are earning points or not - I know its always frustrating to not know if this action earns a point…

if you want to become a superior search engine beside other search engine, I think you must delete your territories for your reward. make your rewards world wide to increase your superior search engine

ITs a good idea but not good for other nations
because many people from Asia are attached to SCOUR and we wish to gain 500000 points to get this money 5$ is a good idea but it should be fare enough with All people
consider my opinion as a suggestion so that every person globally use SCOUR happily.

we are the users of scour a lot, even though it is slow i like the user interface a lot, so encouraged a lot of people to use it, not only under my refereal but also individually, this will help enhance the search engine a lot, but this 50,000 searches and that too for $25 is really gonna make them upset and they will stop not only using but also spreading the news about SCOUR, i wish the Scour team can take some smart decision without making people discouraged.

I use Scour (a wonderful search engine) just for searching purpose & not with an aim to just accumulate reward points. Though I am not much interested in rewards in US$, I feel that reward of $5 for 50,000 points is not a good/encouraging/healthy structure. The genuine users who use scour just for searching will definitely use it irrespective of the reward structure. Good luck Scour team with this new structure.

Thanks scour team for pointing out it’ll take 2-4 weeks to receive the payment. I apologize for complaining earlier about you guys not paying out, but now that I see it take more time I’ll continue searching until those 2 - 4 weeks are done. So far it has been 11 days sadly but once you guys respond to my cashout I’ll probably be at the 50-100$ cashout. But 50,000 points for 5$ is not a good way to encourage the website. It wouldn’t even be worth it for other countries. But right now I’m glad I’m in Canada xD.
33 DmanWR85 // Aug 28, 2008 at 5:37 pm
2-4 Weeks it is suppose to take. Is that from now or front he first time we emailed?
PS: This is my 24th day since i first emailed.
34 Powerpets // Aug 28, 2008 at 6:13 pm
Running a global website ourselves, we know certain countries have a higher *cheat* rate than others, and that’s without any monetary incentive, so it’s hard to imagine what scour is facing. We’re definitely not saying all people are bad, in fact, some of our most loyal players are in singapore, but at the same time, some of our biggest *gamers* (as scour refers to them) are also from there.
To those from countries not in the primary list, I say give it time. As scour grows they are bound to set up offices in your countries to target advertisers specific to your areas, hence be able to provide better rewards/support.
You certainly need a better/smoother payout system. This email stuff and having different point totals on different pages in my account is very confusing and time consuming, but it’s good to see our suggestions and feedback are being implemented.
(hint: a quick and dirty fake entry check for the comment counter is to see how many different letters were used compared to the total number of letters, as no doubt many *cheaters* will do things like asdfasdfasdf in the comment area.)

If you’re going to reduce the amount we gain, why don’t you reduce the amount needed to be able to cash out?
Also, why don’t you send out checks instead of gift cards? What if someone intends on using scour for a very long time? Having dozens of gifts cards worth $25 is a little suspicious.
39 Ven // Aug 28, 2008 at 8:59 pm
Also, why don’t you add a forum? It’s not that difficult.
40 Peter Yu // Aug 28, 2008 at 9:14 pm
Hi all, I was the first to cash out if you remember. Since then I have searched everything I need on Scour. This will come as a big change, but seems fair. I agree that the 50,000 for other nations is fair since they are not gonna change overnight. A better cahs out system would be good.
These changes should ensure more stability to scour.
41 Home Blogger // Aug 28, 2008 at 10:43 pm
Its sad to hear the change in points system, but anyway as long as it would help make the system better then fine. I hope there would be some reconsideration about this decision .

I agree that the tougher standards for the “gamer” areas are warranted completely. As in anything worth anything at all… play by the rules and you’re rewarded, break the rules and you just have to deal with it, that’s real life. If you’re in an a specific geographic area” that has a “high invalid usage” then you were not punished by scour, you were literally screwed by those in “your area”. Learn from it, follow the rules and who knows… maybe once your area proves itself as “worthy” then it’s always possible it will eventually “earn” the right to “6,500 points = $25″ just like those areas that are following the community guidelines. So… stop your whining, email those you know that are abusing the system in your area and tell them what “they” did to you, and for God’s sake get your stuff together! In the long term and for the future success of Scour I’d highly recommend some sort of automated verification system, an algorithm or whatever it takes so manual human checking and intervention is not required. This is the high tech age, it would be great if the “Code” was policing the cheaters while us humanoids were sleeping. Lastly, Scour can be one of the biggest things since happening for you, unless you don’t simply… do the right thing in which case YOU are shooting YOURSELF in the face. OK, well, that’s all I have to say, besides I have to go take my meds now.
44 laokid963 // Aug 29, 2008 at 2:30 am
Yeah, free stuff man is defenitly right. An algorithm for cashing out would be perfect and a captcha code would do just fine every certain amount of searches. The algorithm would really speed up the process and your inbox wouldn’t be flooded with invalid cashouts.

61 brianan // Aug 30, 2008 at 12:40 pm
well, SCOUR started with a good idea & intention was good of getting 3-in-1 search results. Initial rewards of 6500 pionts = $25 is just nice.
But with the new points structure (6,500 points = $25/- targeting Europe & US ) and 50,000 points = $5/for all other regions is far cry or beyond reach.
Could you imagine people in other region merely gets $5/- for 50K points while people in Europe & US gets $192/- for 50K points.
I hope SCOUR have done their home work before implementing the new structure bearing in mind that China & India are the next economic giants, not to forget the whole of S.E.ASIA region.
All the best SCOUR.

71 Brian // Sep 1, 2008 at 3:00 am
The site will fail. Paying members to search will only help short-term.
You all need to hire a marketing research team. People are coming to the site for the 25 bucks, not because they like the search engine. As soon as they get the money they will leave.
You need to find a way to target people who want to use the site who actually want to use it as a search tool.
Further with reward for rating the results, the people paid will rate blindly for their points, which means that with so many ill-reguarded ratings it will make it useless.

Guys, don’t you understand that Scour.com isn’t just a place to make money but a community of users making the site better for everyone? The points are SECONDARY and are just a bonus. Where do you guys see discrimination?? The people who run scour aren’t keeping you from searching and voting and posting. They simply changed the rewards system because there were too many cheaters in certain areas. Too many cheaters=less revenue, less revenue=not being able to pay users. They can’t create an algorithm to catch ALL fraud, too many innocent users would be caught in it.
Cut out the fraud, and they will pay the users again…it’s very simple.
I am an average user from Australia, it would take any average user over a year just to get to 6,500 points, so it doesn’t make sense to complain about the payout unless you were planning on cheating in the fist place. Even without the points, Scour is better than the other engines alone. Give respect to Scour for even attempting to pay the users and stop whining!

But 50,000 points for 5$ is not a good way to encourage the website.

it’s easy to work with scour
i can serch every thing easy

112 jagadish // Sep 7, 2008 at 3:15 am
im from asian continent:im leaving scour as there is no use here..50000 points=5$..its merely a waste of time..so im leaving here..good bye scour.

Good But There is lot of difference : rewards schedule (6,500 points = $25) for the territories: US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Poland and Spain. For all other regions, rewards structure: 50,000 points= $5..
How much hard work should other regions do to earn A Simple 25$ .
other regions has to make 250,000 points to earn 25$ where as other territories US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Poland and Spain with same 250,000 points they make nearly 800$ Lot of difference. Ignorance of other Countries.
at least if give you give 5$ for 10,000 or 15,000 or 20,000 points than it can be reasonable.
Many Of them Appreciate it
Think about it Its Just My Opinion as well as my Request from other region people.

put 50,000 = $5 or even 50,000 = $1, but don’t differentiate between the different countries. Be fair and be sure that most of the spam comes from those ones (especially the USA).
Next, my google history shows that in one year, I made 6000 search, that mean I will need barely 9 or 10 years searching with this engine to make a stupid $5. However with few posts on my blog google send me $400 a month and google send it to india like it send it to USA, I think you know it.
Review more your rules, I was watching your stat on Google trends, you are growing so fast, but if you don’t build on a solid basis you’ll fall so fast and remember you are facing the world hugest search engine
120 Tahsin // Sep 7, 2008 at 7:16 pm
i made 846 points since 2008-07-12. And i live in Turkey, since i cant possible make 50000 points anytime soon just to earn $5 there is no point for me to use scour anymore.
Good bye scour, hello homepages friends.
121 gr8msvk // Sep 8, 2008 at 1:32 am
50000 points = $5 means 2,500,000 points =$ 25. That isn’t fair. But such a ‘revision’ is expected from all sites based on US.
Scour Team, think about it. Instead of driving members out from you, try to improve the methods you use to filter out legit users.
Anyway, I am staying here since scour does have some plus points.

123 Jhansi // Sep 8, 2008 at 11:21 am
It is good to have but sometimes it shows a page like fatal error something like this. It also takes much time for searching. Most of the times, the sites which it is showing are not opening quickly.
124 Shaja // Sep 8, 2008 at 12:12 pm
hay what a bad thin is this . i from srilanka and i have to gain 50,000 points for just $5. im quiting bye…
125 Rahul // Sep 8, 2008 at 1:05 pm
Of course its very discouraging for other regions as we get only $5 and others $25 its discrimantory… I suggets SCOUR team to AMEND this regulation immediately or there would be millions of people from other regions as mentioned ($5) will walk away and will continue other search engines. THats my personal comment with no intention to hurt anyone…Thanks.

Hey guys this is great! I am glad that this update is coming out Friday! I can’t stand on and do the quick search and get +4 per search real quick and think they are going to be eligible for the $25 gift card. And, then they get banned and bash scour.
great addition!
hopefully I can get to the 6500 mark one day.

I have jsut joined scoour and I was not awarew that they give such little money.
But what motivates me to continue now is not the money but the fact that I search three powerful search engines at the same time.
130 Peter Yu // Sep 9, 2008 at 10:01 pm
I know its easy to get upset with the 50,000 = 5 issue, but people are forgetting one thing. The ratio and value of money is very different from North america, europe and asia and other eastern countries. For instance, $ 2 dollars in China could buy a splendid meal where as it would take over $ 10 in Canada.
