Scour is Upgrading Its Reward System to Include All Countries and Increase Payouts!

July 31st, 2009 · 90 Comments · Announcements

(UPDATE TO REWARDS SYSTEM, READ HERE: http://blog.scour.com/2009/09/01/scour-focuses-on-search-and-features/ )

Dear Scour Users,

Over the last year we have seen tremendous growth thanks to the feedback from the Scour community. As a result, we are excited to announce that we are upgrading our current point rewards system as of September 1, 2009, and instead we will be offering a daily cash giveaway of $25, 7 days a week! This new cash giveaway rewards program is available to users in ALL countries around the world.

The rules are very simple; you are given 1 daily giveaway entry for every search, vote and comment on Scour. Each point enters you into our $25 daily Cash Giveaway drawing. This means that if you have a total of 10 searches, Scour will award you with 10 entries to win $25 for that day. The more that you search and participate on Scour, the more entries you will receive with a daily max of 350 entries per day. At the end of the day, the daily $25 Scour Cash Giveaway will reset giving you another chance to win!

You will also be happy to know that there are no restrictions to how many times the same person can win per week or per month. This means that you can win daily if you are chosen as the winner.

Scour Referrals:

The Scour referral system also also lets you take advantage of the giveaway. With the new rewards system in place, users will receive 1/4 (25%) of a give away entry for every search, vote and comment that their friends do. This means that for every 4 giveaway entries your “invited” friends generate, you will receive 1 additional daily Scour Giveaway entry.

Note: These fractions of an entry do not carry over to the next day.

What does this mean for the current points you earned?

As a thank you for all your past participation, during our transition to the new $25 daily Cash Giveaway we are offering the following BONUS:

As of September 1, 2009 all point accumulations will stop and Scour users will be awarded with extra daily search entries for the month of September 2009:

Users with:
1 - 1,500 points will receive 25 daily search entries for 30 days
1,501 - 3,000 points will receive 50 daily search entries for 30 days
3,001 - 4,500 points will receive 75 daily search entries for 30 days
4,501 – 6,000 points will receive 100 daily search entries for 30 days
6,001 - 7,500 points will receive 125 daily search entries for 30 days
7,500 + points will receive 150 daily search entries for 30 days
Note: The daily entry cap for the day is still 350.

August 31, 2009 will be the last day to redeem your points at the minimum 6,500 cashout level. As of September 1, 2009 the current point system will stop and you will have a chance at winning $25 every day, simply by searching, voting and commenting.

Winner Notification:

Daily cash giveaway winners will be notified via a Scour Inbox message. In order to assure prompt payment, please check your Scour Inbox regularly or make Scour your homepage so that you don’t miss out on free cash. The Scour Inbox email will only ask you for a PayPal address and will not ask you banking or other personal information. These messages will only be sent through our Scour Account. Those who do not respond within 30 days will lose their claim for the $25. So keep an eye on your inbox.

Keeping track of Scour Entry Points

Scour users will continue to view the number of entries that they have through a daily “sweepstakes entry counter” on the results page which will tell them the number of daily entries they have.

We’re excited about continuing to provide our users with superior search results with a little extra on top. :)

Thank you!

-Team Scour

  • 2 Lo // Jul 31, 2009 at 12:35 pm

So if I don’t succeed in reaching 6500 points by the 31st of august, i wont be paid for the searches i’v already done?

  • 3 Nate // Jul 31, 2009 at 12:42 pm

I dont like this new system, I like getting points every time I search!!!!

  • 4 admin // Jul 31, 2009 at 12:54 pm

    @ Nate

You will still be getting “points” ever time you search but now they will be entries for the daily draw.

This means that the entries you earn by voting, commenting and searching are entered on a daily basis, which means you can win $25 everyday

  • 5 Millerrita // Jul 31, 2009 at 12:55 pm

E’ veramente una bellissima iniziativa. Grazie a tutti voi di Scour.

  • 6 admin // Jul 31, 2009 at 12:57 pm

    @Lo

The points you earn and are not able to be cashed out will be used towards the daily draw per outline above.

I don’t like the new system either!

I like the daily drawing thing but I don’t like that the accumulated points can’t be redeemed for cash anymore! I’m not very lucky… I like working for my rewards. I hate depending on if I win a daily prize or not.

I think you should still keep the daily prize but how about making it lower? like $5 or something.. and just awarding it to one lucky person that happens to search at the right time.

That way you can still keep the point rewards system for cash!!!

I don’t want entries into a drawing where I may or may not win!

My luck is so bad, if I bought a cemetery, people would stop dying. True story.

  • 8 admin // Jul 31, 2009 at 1:27 pm

    @trini

Stay positive! With $25 daily drawings you have lots of chances to win!

Hi everybody of the scour team ! i hope this website will also account the every intries we put onto search even the same site once or twic..
    with regards,

  • 10 admin // Jul 31, 2009 at 2:16 pm

    @Giri

We do grant entries for every search, vote and comment, however we are constantly monitoring our system to prevent any abuse.

Our community guidelines still apply to this system and users that abuse the system will be banned.

  • 11 silentsteve // Jul 31, 2009 at 5:22 pm

I disapprove of this new system too. Not knowing if you are actually going to get something doesn’t feel as good as it is now. I know that its a bonus to be getting something for searching. I just like the way it’s right now.

  • 12 sillyslicker // Jul 31, 2009 at 5:42 pm

Aww :( I agree with TriNi… I loved earning it. I want to be able to know when I’m getting the reward. What if I never win? :( I want to know that I’ll for sure be getting something… I know you guys are trying to do something good, but I think this sucks :(

  • 13 jaylon // Jul 31, 2009 at 6:36 pm

Cool you should put more stuff in the redeem points category everyone loves money but we love other stuff to.

  • 14 Angel_cool // Jul 31, 2009 at 7:23 pm

    Oke i’ll try

  • 15 Sandra // Jul 31, 2009 at 7:24 pm

I agree with most of the other users. I do not like this change. When I voted for the idea before, I assumed that it would be in addition to the regular accumulation system, just like the monthly $1,000 drawing. I am sad to say that after the 31st I will most likely not use scour any longer (or not very often). I don’t like the idea of hoping that I win a prize, I would instead like to know that I will be rewarded. Despite the fact that there is a daily drawing I could still never win, meaning there is no longer an incentive to use scour. I hope that you will reconsider this change because I think that you will lose a lot of members (I know that all of my referrals and myself will stop using scour after the change).

  • 16 scourisgonnasuck // Jul 31, 2009 at 7:30 pm

This sucks, I will most likely stop using Scour now

  • 17 Vincent // Jul 31, 2009 at 7:48 pm

So wait…All our Scour points will go away? So no more points, just entries? They call that an improvement? Thats ridiculous…

  • 18 slabeusz // Jul 31, 2009 at 7:48 pm

How many giveaway entrance will be for 1000 users for example? So we could find out what is a chance to win in % per day monthg or year?

  • 19 Kimberly // Jul 31, 2009 at 8:32 pm

Awesome! More chances to earn money! :)

  • 20 Quentin // Jul 31, 2009 at 9:07 pm

OMG this is not good what so ever.

1)now we have to get lucky. before we could look forward to earning our money now we just have to get lucky.

2)now only the people with thousands of friends will have a good chance at winning money. I dont have lots of friends so i was going to get money slowly but SURELY, now it is going to make other feel like this is a waste of time. how can i compete with all the big guys?

    3) why not just keep the current system and do a bi-monthly drawing? i think many people are feeling cheated now. hints the negative post.

  • 21 Quentin // Jul 31, 2009 at 9:11 pm

like jaylon said, you should be able to choose prizes AT LEAST if you guys are really going to do this new system.

maybe a option weather to join the drawing or keep you points for prizes exaple: music downloads, game downloads, movie downloads. i mean something come on.

  • 22 redlink321 // Jul 31, 2009 at 9:17 pm

I dont Like The New Currency System! I Liked It When We Knew We Could Actually Earn Something With Our Searches! Now We May Never Ever Win Something :(

I Vote That We Keep It The Old Way! Or At Least Add Some New Prizes To Get!

  • 23 Jordan.615 // Jul 31, 2009 at 9:27 pm

What? no more cash-outs, sorry scour you just lost me, email me when we can trade points for cash-outs, like honestly, i rather that than anything, so scour I believe that is the biggest mistake fo your life turning down cash-out for money, maybe you could keep both, and the daily giveaways… email me when cash-out for money is back

  • 24 lordtang // Jul 31, 2009 at 10:49 pm

Yea the new system is okay, but I would feel that everyone would be more happy if the 25$ gift card idea was still active. And as a bonus, the daily 25$ giveaway.

  • 27 Mina // Jul 31, 2009 at 11:20 pm

This is terrible! Now that i’m not getting paid to use scour, I can’t recommend it to anyone. It is now a sweepstakes instead of a reward system. If I reach 6500 points there is no guarantee I will even get any gift card. Wow, I’m extremely disappointed and very sorry but this means I’m going back to Google.

  • 28 ale92_ // Aug 1, 2009 at 12:29 am

i dont like the new system…it’s too random…i like to earn point and give mooney for that…
i think it’s better this system

  • 29 ale92_ // Aug 1, 2009 at 12:29 am

    sorry…the old system

  • 30 kelly10 // Aug 1, 2009 at 2:52 am

I liked the way it was, you earn points and you redeemed them for cash. I really think that it should stay as it, a great way to earn money in a recession.
Not everyone will win, I’m not that lucky so I don’t expect to win anything.
    Not a happy member

Why should I hope to obtain something with this new system??

  • 34 Combatd // Aug 1, 2009 at 6:54 am

What? Oh come on, I liked the point system, now this reminds me of stupid swagbucks. Now most of us will probably never win from this random cash drawings. :-(

  • 36 Fabian Schneider // Aug 1, 2009 at 7:22 am

well everyone is looking all happy.
but i think this sucks :S
this means that i might as well start using google again cause the chance that i win anything is lower then ever.
evetyday someone might win 25 bucks.
yeah and there’s a change that i wont win enything EVER. cause the same person can win stuff twice :S
    i liked the old system.
    i hate the new one.
if this wil really be implemented i’m going back to google cause i wont win anything anyway.

  • 37 Zathur101 // Aug 1, 2009 at 8:11 am

I do NOT like this new daily lotter of $25 at all. I would much prefer to be able to earn points at my own pace, and know that i will be working towards that $25 gift card, and not leaving it up to chance. I agree with Combatd when he says it reminds me of Swagbucks, because it DOES. What made Scour unique in the first place is that you can work your way to the gift card and not having to leave it to chance. The only problem is Scour has already gone full out with their announcement so I am not sure if they will change their minds now. Unless of course enough people say they don’t like it and prefer the old way…

  • 38 Salvatore Grasso // Aug 1, 2009 at 8:17 am

I will be honest and say that i am a bit bummed that the point system is going away, but if you think about it, its free money we are getting regardless. not like we really work for it or anything, we just use the interent and search for stuff and as a bonus.

I am ok with the daily giveaway, cuz i rather have a chance of winning everyday than have to really work for $25 over such a along time

    Just my 2 cents

  • 40 Jim Hughes // Aug 1, 2009 at 9:11 am

I use Scour for the search results - whatever perks are around I’ll take them - but honestly I would remove the points system if there was an option and just use Scour to search.

  • 41 V.P. RAMADASAN // Aug 1, 2009 at 9:23 am

Regarding the New Daily Give Away, it is very
    interesting

  • 42 infoweb // Aug 1, 2009 at 9:49 am

It’s not fair for users who have been working hard to accumulate points and refer others.

New system is also good but point accumulation must stay here.

Anyway, if new system replaces the old one, scour will definitely see a setback and users will move away from it.

    Its unfair.

  • 43 Pat // Aug 1, 2009 at 9:53 am

Well. my last post wasn’t posted, since it told too much of the truth.

Scour has over 500,000 users. look at your userid cookie. My number is 562,590. Lets say 50 of those people cash out for $25 every day. Thats $1250. With this new system, Scour only pays $25 a day.

Well, whats America for if not the greedy company? Certain other Paid to Search sites are looking better and better.

Scour has fallen from the best, down to tied for last with such as Winzy.

  • 44 Alyy88Snts06 // Aug 1, 2009 at 10:01 am

I don’t like this new system either.

What if someone’s already won? Do they get to win more than once within a certain time period?

I like the old way better.

  • 45 Jessi // Aug 1, 2009 at 12:08 pm

For those of us who have been using Scour for a while but aren’t near enough to the 6500 point mark, this rather sucks. I joined Scour because I liked that it was guaranteed points for searches that I could accumulate instead of being like Swagbucks, for example, where there’s just a chance you could end up with a point. With this change, it’s even more of a “chance” thing…..and many of us will never win, no matter how long we use Scour.

It’s just a search engine and yeah, how generous of you guys to share your revenue, which you didn’t have to do in the first place….but that’s the only reason I joined (and I’m sure it is for many others, too). For those with lots of referrals and who prefer the search results here to other places, then hey, I’m sure this is a cool change, but for me, it just doesn’t seem worth it.

  • 46 Combatd // Aug 1, 2009 at 1:11 pm

One question: How many people will be winning $25 per day?

  • 47 dreamy1 // Aug 1, 2009 at 1:29 pm

I thought maybe they would add the daily drawings in with the current system of earning points for the gift card.

It’s possible that some people may win multiple times especially those with tons of referrals whereas some people may never win at all.

It’s good to have daily prizes so more people can get a chance to win but I think it should be in addition to the old system.

I’m just grateful now that after a little over a year I was finally about to cash out last week but I will miss the old way especially if I search for a whole nother year and may not win anything.

  • 48 Ruben // Aug 1, 2009 at 3:53 pm

I join all the people that don´t like the new reward system. Luck is not always fair, and i prefer gaining points that will give me in the future a sure gift that a participation (or 50 entries) in a contest.

Maybe you could set half prices for the daily contest, and half points for the actual system, or something like that. And i haven´t reached the enought amount of points in the 200 days that i´m here but i know that actually i am closer to the amount needed to redeem points.

  • 49 Juan // Aug 1, 2009 at 3:54 pm

yeah i disagree with the new rewards system since to sign to paypal you have to be 18 years old and my parents don’t have one so i won’t be able to even get the $25 if i win, which i highly doubt , but in case, what alternative is there for me and those who can’t use paypal? will you still be giving the visa gift cards?

  • 50 astheworldchanges.blogspot.com // Aug 1, 2009 at 8:22 pm

Absolutely wonderful. I was rather disappointed because the points needed to redeem was so high- now have a much better chance of winning. Thank you very, very much.

  • 51 mohshinobi // Aug 2, 2009 at 1:28 am

Hope that include my contry ‘algeria’ O__o

  • 52 Robin // Aug 2, 2009 at 2:32 am

    noooo.
i was building my points slowly but surely and have only got a thousand still. now i get next to nothing and hardly any chance of a payout.

as you youselves said: ‘Over the last year we have seen tremendous growth’ this leads me to believe that because there are so many users now most of us are unlikely to be paid and this is just a way to save scour money. am i right?

Please bring back the old system but with the $25 as an actual ‘bonus’ to the other stuff you get!

Ps: one my free prize draw entries have expired it is likely that i will leave the scour community if this sheme is to continue.

  • 55 jayflame // Aug 2, 2009 at 4:32 pm

I don’t like the new system my whole point of joining was so I would be able to redeem for cash now I have to wait to see if I win 25 it’s alot of people on this system that seems like a cheap way out for scour and not right for the users

  • 56 Taesurvey // Aug 2, 2009 at 6:26 pm

oh come on, you basically turned scour into a sweepstakes site. that’s ridiculous and unfair to those who have worked hard to accumulate points to have cashed out…. only to find out, its suddenly being changed. not cool admin. i’ve told my friends all about this site and how cool it is… now I look foolish.. being that it is only a sweepstakes site.

Trini… I have no luck with “drawings” either. Bummer.

  • 57 Jimmy Cruz // Aug 2, 2009 at 6:55 pm

I’m a big fan of scour and it’s my new Google. I don’t even go to google’s home page anymore it’s all scour. I don’t like this new system because I’m still quite a bit of points away from obtaining that cash. I’ve worked hard with just building what I’ve had and I can see that money in my future, but now it won’t be there. I take part in many giveaways where the chances are good, but when it comes to random drawings my luck fails. Besides there is going to be a big handful of users out there cheating, using bots, ect. Definitely makes it unfair for the rest of us who make legitimate searches.

  • 59 Beretha101 // Aug 3, 2009 at 6:59 am

I think this is going to be too many people pitted up against each other to try and struggle to get that $25.00. There is a chance, but just a chance, that you might get that money. Also there is a chance that you will never earn it, no matter what.
I liked working toward a goal that eventually I know I could earn something. Not guess maybe one day I might hit that 25.00

  • 60 Paul // Aug 3, 2009 at 7:21 am

This is a ridiculous *downgrade* not upgrade to the existing system, so can someone please explain why Scour are ‘excited’ to introduce it (as they say on their website)?

Anyone who believes who believes differently (including those at Scour, who can’t possibly if truth be told) must have a problem understanding that actual money in your pocket beats the infinitessimally small chance of winning a far smaller amount.

Using the stats on their own website you could get a maximum of about £35 / month + £8.75 per affiliate (100 affiliates would be £910 / month, 200 affiliates=£1785 / month…).

Now you get ‘the chance’ to win £25 / day but with the odds being somewhere in the range of several (tens of) thousands to 1 for that to happen (and who’s to say the prizes will ever be distributed at all. Okay, I know that’s cynical but I suspect if we try setting up a blog of winners, I doubt there’ll be any entries. Note to Scour - Even if this is not the case and you are honest about prizes, make something look like a scam and people will start to think it is and quietly go away)

Bye bye Scour, there’s obviously some reason you’re not telling us why you’ve taken this company-killing decision. We can only sit back and watch your no. of users disappear into non-existance and your site vanish shortly after.

I for one think it’s a shame. Ah well.

  • 61 AJ // Aug 3, 2009 at 9:12 am

I echo the sentiments that I don’t like the new system, at all. Originally, you were going to award $25 for every 6200 searches a person did. Now you are awarding one $25 search per day, and I guarantee there are a lot more than 6200 searches worldwide per day. I originally thought Scour’s search engine was “good enough” when combined with the prizes. But given now that prizes will be near impossible to win and cannot be earned in ANY way, I may as well switch to a more robust and reliable search engine.

  • 62 Paolo // Aug 3, 2009 at 9:19 am

According to me the old system is better, is little possibilities here to win, is too much enrolled, at least before when you catch up the 6500 points you are sure to take to 25$ hour you are not surer than to take them.

  • 63 Shawn Gadwa // Aug 3, 2009 at 10:53 am

I’ve read through the blog and it seems like the comments here, for the most part, is just a bunch of people complaining because the old system is better. If I could say something, I believe in many ways the old system was better. I would much rather work for money, than to search and not know if I will win or not. BUT, so many people fail to realize that it was free money in the first place. If I sat around doing searches on Scour ALL DAY, it would be a terrible, terrible job. Its not a job. Its extra money.

Actually, I believe that the reason Scour changed their point system is the same reason eBay changed their fees system about a year ago. It sounded like a good deal, but actually eBay made more money. In this case, people have a ‘chance’ to win money every day (as long as they search everyday). But, Scour saves money that way because they now only have to give away $25.00 a day instead of maybe $25 two or three times a day (seeing how Scour has grown. But thats OK. They have the right to do that. All we are getting is a little money for helping scour become what it is. That means that we (the users) are a VERY important part to this search engine.

Personally, I like the comments and the votes, and its a good search engine. I’d use it just for that, but I like the money as well and I hope I get my $25 that I’ve earned before the system changes.

Hmm … Interesting. I’m not sure about the new cashout .. Doesn’t always mean that you will win though ..

By the by is the money that is going to be transfered to our Paypals be cold hard cash once we visit the ATM? Or is still going to be vouchers in some form?

  • 70 Dave // Aug 6, 2009 at 9:30 pm

    I agree I don’t like it.
I like how it works now better.
You get what you earn, not entries in a lottery.

  • 72 sivrm.p // Aug 7, 2009 at 4:32 am

The new system is really GREAT. It keeps you in the peak of excitement everyday. . . And every time you search the chance of winning increases. . That gives more excitement. . . I am waiting for september 1 to start getting into every draw. . . That will be really interesting. . . SCOUR is really good. . I find the search results much useful than any other search engine. . . The comments are also useful. . . And on top of all the reward program is going to be a very thrilling experience. . It is very happy to hear that the points i already have is going to give me higher chance of winning than others. . . . SCOUR has grown , and has become popular. . Hope SCOUR won’t forget our efforts, and give us more reward programs. . . . I am waiting for sept 1 to start the excitement of searching. . . . SCOURING. . . . . . .

I really dislike the new system as I know I will never ever ever win as will most people, before I had a chance of winning now I don’t. I am very angry that I have “wasted” my time, but still I suppose that its better than nothing. :(

Admin replied to some of the feedback, stating that they are going to discuss about keeping the old system at their next meeting. This is good for me, and many others, but what about the users not in the target demographic….

    I don’t like this!!!!…….. i want the old system!!!!!

  • 78 Akufesia // Aug 16, 2009 at 4:37 am

Scour is cool with respect to human searches.

  • 79 Akufesia // Aug 16, 2009 at 4:40 am

It hav helped me and my comrades with useful searches in difficult concepts of life.

  • 80 Paolo // Aug 18, 2009 at 1:03 am

I just hope Admin could come here and discuss with us.
New system will make so many people unsatisfied to use Scour - and I am here too - cause they are not sure they will win. Ok, maybe they can win twice a month, or maybe they will never be able to win, from now on.
How to persuade referrals to join? By promising them that “maybe” they can win? Not at all. You have to give them warranties.

  • 81 Fabian Schneider // Aug 18, 2009 at 6:55 pm

scour isnt taking its users serious at ALL.
i will stop using scour if the upgrade will continue.
i recommend others to do the same.

this new calculation system apply to every country? or for just particular countries?

  • 83 lu // Aug 18, 2009 at 11:34 pm

I am extremely saddened by this new rewards system.I just signed up yesterday and have accumulated points with the hope of cashing out now i may never see that day :(
Please guys rethink this whole new rewards system.I really like this site so far but i can’t imagine it keeping my interest if i only have a chance of winning :(

Can we all talk about maybe an in between type of situation?

  • 84 lu // Aug 18, 2009 at 11:41 pm

Also I do not have paypal what am i supposed to do if i win?Forfeit the prize?
I think more thought should be put on this as well as a serious discussion with your members.I am new but from what i read on your very own post the members made this site a success shouldn’t we get somewhat of a say what we want to do with our points before the expiration date of aug.31rst?

  • 85 Kenya // Aug 19, 2009 at 9:55 am

I’ll still be here a little, but it won’t be for the “earnings”.

I understand that you can include more countries, but those new members may never get paid.

Don’t you see that this new system makes it so only those who have no life even online and spend all day on Scour, and those who have a million referrals have a possible shot at receiving that drawing?

And who can build a downline promoting THAT as a payment?

I will still use Scour off and on, but only for the marketing capabilities and convenience it has. I actually liked the last update, where you’ve included Digg and Twitter. I really thought that Scour was on the way up.

But with this new development, and the many people abandoning the site as a result, you may just have effectively killed Scour.

  • 86 linkmerik // Aug 19, 2009 at 11:25 am

I don’t like this new system either.

What if someone’s already won? Do they get to win more than once within a certain time period?

I like the old way better.

Will likely stop using it and will go back to swagbucks, lockers, and irazoo if they implement the new system.

I don’t have paypal and like the gift cards a lot better.

  • 87 Shawn Gadwa // Aug 20, 2009 at 5:55 pm

    Just a note…

A good company… listens to their customers. So, I recommend that you do something about the people who made Scour be what scour is. If you do not do something, you may loose a lot of users. Even though I think its insane that many use Scour ONLY so that they will make money. That would be a terrible job anyway.

  • 88 ADV // Aug 21, 2009 at 10:17 am

Honestly this is the worst things Scour could do. We have to rely on randomized luck instead of getting a reward we earn. It’s almost like working a job and only one employee gets paid and the rest just hope to be. Everyone is already going to meet that 350 point mark.

  • 89 ADV // Aug 21, 2009 at 10:18 am

I suggest Scour keeps things the way they are so people will be satisfied. And if not then I would like to be able to do 350 searches a day for all my entries. No more 100 search limit for points

  • 90 Bbxez // Sep 22, 2009 at 4:23 pm

I REALLY DUN LIKE THIS NEW SYSTEM :(
