Scour Focuses on Search and Features

September 1st, 2009 · 13 Comments · Announcements

Hey Scour Community,

Thank you for all of your feedback regarding our planned $25 daily cash giveaway, which was going to be the replacement for our Scour points program. We read all of your comments and suggestions and the overwhelming majority of users feel that we should focus our resources and efforts on core and new Scour features and usability. As a result we have decided not to move forward with the $25 daily program that was scheduled to begin September 1, 2009.

Scour is now able to focus its resources primarily on your experience, our own search speed and many more upgrades.

Over the past year, we have received many great suggestions from the community as to what we can improve on Scour, several which have already been implemented into our new homepage design. All feedback is taken into heavy consideration to help enrich the Scour community. With our focus narrowed, we’ve been able to make fast progress on some brand new features we’ll soon be rolling out over the next few months, including:

1. Facebook/Twitter Integration
2. Search in different languages
3. Add more Google results
4. New Scour homepage design
5. Implement local search /maps
6. Implement new layout/design to serps
7. Add chat within search results
8. Reply to Comments
9. And more!

Scour has always worked toward the goal of being a search engine for the users, and made better by its community. We continue to welcome your feedback and look forward implementing requests that make Scour.com a truly unique social search engine. As always, we want to hear what you think would make Scour.com better.

-Team Scour
Please note: The previous point reward system is still discontinued as of September 1, 2009.

    @millionbar @what!? @ypy That is correct.

From the feedback we have received in the past year, we feel that our resources are better spent focusing on your search experience rather than a points system.

We are confident that you will be very happy with the changes and updates to come.

Thanks for being part of Scour,
    Team Scour

Sooo, this means that there is no point system anymore? When will there be one again? I hate to say it, but as much as all the other advantages will REALLY make people want to use Scour, a lot of people would get discouraged between now and then because of the no points, and leave. Too many users seem to think that this is a ‘job.’ Those are the type of users who are asking you to create games to play… dreaming, in my opinion.

Regardless, I know I myself am going to really enjoy the changes but I would suggest that you keep some kind of rewards system at least until you get another one, only because 1. its not fair on those who are searching a lot, and have a lot of friends… it does not go with the original scour advertisements and 2. you would loose a lot of users in this transitioning period.

As for me, I’m staying. ;)

I am very excited about the changes - I found that the rewards system got in the way of me searching sometimes - you guys have a great search engine - really looking forward to the changes!

BTW - Love the new homepage!

Yeah, I’m excited about the changes too!

Just a comment I had to scour:

If you leave out the awards program altogether, then I think that your search engine may become less and less ‘community supported.’ At least until a lot of the changes are made.

Also, scour is a search engine that combines the results of google, yahoo, and MSM into one search. I think you need to keep in mind that people can also go to a search engine called Dog Pile, which does the same thing, only its faster. So, in order to keep the community focus, I think you will have to get creative and provide features that other search engines do not have, and it might help also to maintain the ‘get paid to search’ slogan. By that I mean, after the changes are made, you should come up with a good rewards program.

    Just some thoughts.

So we aren’t being rewarded anymore for searches? Oh well. I’m still gonna use Scour because of the rankings are chosen by the community, plus I hate google very much. But maybe just to encourage those users who are here for the money we could have 5 people per day winning $2 or something, just something small but without emphasizing the “Get paid to search” thing.

oh my god, why is the redeemable prizes gone. I liked scour with the prizes. It made searching fun.

    Noooo!!! no more rewards….oh well…

  • 12 ADZ // Sep 11, 2009 at 4:50 pm

Oh come on :( I was SO close. ~1000 more points and I would’ve had my $25 !

  • 13 Shawn Gadwa // Sep 15, 2009 at 4:51 pm

You know… out of all the people that complained about the “bad” new rewards program, I’m sure a lot of them are not hoping that they had it in effect. Its better than nothing. Still, I’m looking forward to the added features although I’m inclined to use Google in the meantime because its faster and scour is no longer paying.
