Illustrated Logos Create Buzz in Web Community

Google’s homepage is now known as much for its ever changing holiday and event-themed logos, as it is for its search.  This is thanks to Dennis Hwang – Google’s very own graphic artist who is the brains behind the festive logos.  Now, however, the company is putting those creative juices into the hands of children – yes, children!  The face of Google, Marissa Mayer, was on the Today Show just the other day discussing the company’s second annual “Doodle for Google” competition for kids in grades K-12.  We commend Google on its efforts to inspire children to get creative and show off their designs!

Google is not the only one creating colorful themed  logos, though. Your one and only Scour.com will also be featuring a special themed logo in the next couple of days. Want to take a guess at what it might be? Either way, stay tuned…

Congratulations President Obama!

We wish President Barack Obama the best of luck for a successful term as he takes office this week.  Regardless of your political preference, we can all rally around our Commander in Chief as he gets to work on his staggeringly long to-do list.  Over the next few years, is it possible for us all to work together instead of apart? Only we can decide.

There is definitely an exciting feeling in Washington right now which is palpable for us all the way on the West Coast. We hope that spirit carries the country through the current hardships that millions of Americans are facing.

Be sure to post your thoughts in the comments section below and let us know your hopes for the new president!

Scour Represents at the Digital Family Reunion

Last week, Scour attended the Digital Family Reunion, (DFR) event at the Skirball Center, in Los Angeles, CA. and we had a BLAST!The speakers were full of humor, wisdom and experience by the bucket loads. We especially enjoyed Tony Winders’ interview with Nolan Bushnell, the found of ATARI , Chucke Cheese and CEO of Uwink.  Check out a couple morsels of the interview below:

DFR brought together “Southern California technology and business communities” for the holidays and as predicted, turned out to be a HUGE success. A  big THANKS to The DFR Steering Committee, Brad Nye, Tony Winders, Dave Leighton, & Kurt Daradics. You guys really out-did yourselves!

Check out some pics:

Among the mound of business cards, Scour stands tall.

Here’s Scour Team member Alex giving away free Scour T-Shirts and answering questions about Scour.

Here is a pic from the back of the room…the DFR turnout was larger than expected with an approximate total of over 1,000 guests.

In addition to having great sponsor tables to visit, DFR had a “Town Hall Meeting” which was a lot of fun. Attendees were able to listen to various influential tech executives, including:

Jason Calacanis, CEO of Mahalo
Nolan Bushnell, CEO of UWink
Shawn Gold, president of Social Approach
Ryan Scott, CEO of Causecast
Joey Tarner, president of SOS
Ted Cohen, president of TAG Strategies
Nelson Gayton of UCLA Andreson School of management

It was great to meet everyone and we look forward to the next local event!  We’re looking forward to many more to come!

Scour Wins Mashable’s Open Web Award for Best Search & Social Search Engine!

It’s official people, you’ve given us the best holiday present EVER. We are excited to announce that Scour has won the Mashable ‘People’s Choice’ Open Web Award for Best Search & Social Search engine, voted on by none other than YOU, our wonderful users!

We faced some stiff competition, even the “800-pound gorilla” (ahem, Google), but Scour triumphed and stepped away with this incredible honor. For being around just a mere six months in the search industry, this is a huge testament to the power of our fledging social network of Scour users to whom we owe this honor. Your development feedback, participation in search rankings, and continued use & dedication have brought us to this point!

For a bit of background, Mashable’s Open Web Awards are the only multilingual international online voting competition that covers major innovations in web technology. This year’s 2nd Annual Open Web Awards brought in a total of approximately 170,000 votes this year – of which there was only one winner in each of the 26 categories. Other 2008 winners include folks such as Google, ShareThis, NetLog, and HARO.

This has been an amazing couple of weeks for Scour. Last week, we took the runner-up spot to Google in Mashable’s “Blogger’s Choice” Open Web Awards for Search, which was voted on by Mashable’s 100+ Blog Partners from around the globe. And now this!

Congratulations to all of this year’s winners and runner-ups! And of course a HUGE thanks to the people who voted and made us your number one search engine!
Now after a few more happy dances, we’ll get back to making community-powered searching the future of online search…

Scour Takes Second in Mashable’s Blogger’s Choice Award

Second place might not usually inspire “the happy dance”, but when you come in second to Google in Mashable’s “Blogger’s Choice” Open Web Awards you have every right to sing and dance through the streets. The Scour team is doing so right now after learning Scour.com was named runner up in this year’s Blogger’s Choice Awards (Google took home 1st, but hey… they’re GOOGLE, we’re not complaining). Mashable’s Adam Hirsch posted the news today after their 100+ Blog Partners from around the globe deliberated and voted this year’s winners. We’re in good company with other runner-ups such as Facebook, Twitterfeed, Mixx, StumbleUpon, Pandora, etc.

Congratulations to the winners, but also to all the runner-ups, who we feel deserve an enthusiastic shout out as well! And thank you to all the Mashable Blog Partners that considered us in the mix for this year’s award!

We can still wow folks in the Open Web Awards though, which is still being voted on now through Sunday, December 14th. Show your support for Scour.com and vote for us under the “Search and Social Search” category (you can vote once a day). We can go all the way with your help! Winners are being announced next Tuesday, December 16th.

We will now resume our happy dance…
