A hillside burns near homes in the Los Angeles area
As any Californian will tell you, we’re facing some serious heat this month, not from the economy, but from fires that are blazing across the state. Well known search industry expert and CA resident, Danny Sullivan of Search Engine Land pulled together some great resources to monitor fires and even witnessed a fire from his own home near the Newport Beach foothills. Hopefully that’s as close as he gets.
For information on efforts underway to help and ways to support Direct Relief International, which provides emergency assistance and support to those communities affected by the fires, check out the official website. Our thoughts and best wishes go out to all of those impacted by these fires.

Our newest version of the Scour Search Results is now LIVE!
Here is a breakdown of what’s new:
1. Faster Search Results!….We’ve improved search speed by 80%! We recently clocked a search for “shoes” at .123 seconds! That’s even faster than Google at .16 seconds!
2. New Layout: We’ve removed the top sponsored results for most listings and added more listings per page. This eliminates a lot of the clutter allowing you to find your links faster.
3. New Search Filter: By “double-clicking” on any word in the results, you can refine your search in one click.
4. Open results in a new tab: Open links in a new tab for easier navigation!
5. Site Search from Results: Search within a site, using your current query
6. New Points Box: View how many points you and your friends have earned without leaving the page.
7. Rank other people’s comments and take charge of your community!
8. Sorting of Comments- Sort by “Newest”, “Oldest”, “Positive”, “Negative” and “Recommended”comments
Today we wanted to share one of the best parts of working at Scour- The blog posts Scour users make when they get their reward!! This one in is from one of our scour leaders who definitely lives/dies up to their screen name!
One of our Scour users by the the name of “ZombieMoney” was nice enough to mention us on a blog after receiving a Visa Gift Card …we thought we would return the favor. Zombiemoney has been a loyal Scour user since late July and is a testament to Scour rewarding our users, even those that consider themselves Zombies!
We also wanted to mention that we are currently reviewing another batch of individuals who have made it through to our final round of Cashout Review. So if you have not heard back from us yet, just be patient…ZombieMoney was!

It is our continued mission at Scour to build a search community, one that fosters communication between the user and search results to order to create the best search experience possible. After all, how can we call ourselves a social search engine, if it lacks that critical communication?
Keeping with this theme, AltSearchEngines wrote a great piece on Scour and the value of human-powered search a few days ago.
